Background
Forêt Internationale & Développement Environnemental, hereafter referred to as IFED, website www.ifed-inc.ca, is a Canadian NGO specializing in the sustainable management of natural resources, mitigation of the adverse effects of climate change and poverty alleviation of local communities living near these resources. Through a network of dynamic partnerships, as well as innovative research and development programs, IFED is always at the forefront of technology to provide its partners with efficient and adapted services. To this end, IFED collaborates with governments, municipalities, the private and public sectors, national and international NGOs, universities, research centres and institutions involved in sustainable natural resource management to provide services in environmental assessments, forest and wildlife management, biomass-carbon stock assessments, climate change mitigation, publications, dissemination of research results, and project design and implementation in these areas. IFED also offers training on various topics in the following areas of interest: GIS and remote sensing, sustainable forest and environmental management, environmental project management, circular economy and value chains, ecotourism
IFED’s vision is to become by 2030 a major player in professional training and capacity building of technical staff and officers in the fields of REDD+, sustainable management of the environment and natural resources.
In addition, IFED implements a training and capacity building plan whose courses are grouped into 5 fields including MST 100: GIS and Remote Sensing applied to the environment and sustainable management of natural resources, MFE 200: Forests and Environment, MFE 300: Marketing, value chain, industrialization and project set-up, MFE 400: Ecotourism, MFE 500: Other training on request
Each training field includes numerous courses that can be consulted on the IFED website. The courses offered are modular in their nomenclature or content to take into account real training needs.
IFED’s activities and services also include environmental and social assessments, scientific research, publication and dissemination of research results.
In line with its ambitions, IFED is currently looking for a National Representative in African countries, with the exception of Cote d’Ivoire, Togo, Benin, Mauritania, Madagascar, CAR, Burkina Faso, Democratic Republic of Congo and Comoros Islands, where the institution already has National Representatives (NRs). The selected NR will facilitate the development and implementation of IFED’s activities in the country concerned, in close liaison with its General Coordination.
Profile of the candidates
The targeted persons should :
- Preferably reside in the country concerned, being a native of that country being a major asset;
- Have related activities in one or more of IFED’s fields of competence;
- Preferably belong to a structure with an obvious local anchorage such as universities, schools specialised in the Forest Environment sector, civil society structures (NGOs, grassroots organisations, etc.) active in the country;
- Master at least one of the two languages of communication of IFED (French or
English).
The country manager will have to rely on local focal points or relays to be set up by him/her or his/her facilitation to support the development of IFED activities in the country concerned. The selected candidates will be remunerated on the basis of performance according to the system set up within IFED for the remuneration of its national officers, focal points and local relays.
